Al Taweelah alumina refinery is a greenfield refinery with an annual capacity of some 2 million metric tonnes located in the United Arab Emirates’ Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD).

The Al Taweelah alumina refinery development was part of EGA’s strategic expansion upstream in the aluminum value chain. Also, it created additional economic opportunities for other industries in the supply chain, including shipping and commerce.

Construction

The construction process involved intricate engineering, with specialized facilities for bauxite unloading, alumina processing, and product storage. The refinery is equipped with advanced machinery, including high-capacity digesters, calciners, and hydrate filtration units, optimizing the production of alumina. The project's strategic significance is underscored by its integration into the broader aluminum value chain, contributing to the UAE's ambition to become a global hub in the downstream aluminum sector.
